Get Fit With Physios - Snow Sports Fitness Program
The Snow Sports Fitness Program was initially developed by physiotherapists with a passion for skiing and the Australian Physiotherapy Association. A program of exercises was developed that would help prepare skiers for the slopes thus minimizing their chances of injury and enhancing their enjoyment of the snow.
Get Fit with Physios has continued running this program around Melbourne. Physiotherapists have developed exercises in a ski or snowboard specific way to mimic the skills needed for each sport. Classes include leg strengthening, trunk strengthening for core stability, arm strengthening for poling, balance training and cardiovascular fitness. Exercises can be tailored to the individual to deal with the particular physical problems they may have.
Classes consist of an aerobic warm-up, a circuit of 20 specific exercises then a cool-down and stretch. Each class takes 90 minutes. Classes start late May and run twice a week for 8 weeks.
